Monday- Weekend wrap up- South Africa's Golden Jumper.
He starts his run, with the look of determination on his face. He takes a giant leap and soars into the sky lading on the soft brown sand. That is how Luvo Manyonga attained yet another gold medal this time from the IAAF World Championships in London.
His life story will move and inspire you. a few years ago you wouldn't have thought that he would be thriving, and at a peak in his career. At some point in life we all have downfalls and so did he. He stmbled, allowing things to distract him from what was important at the time which was to nurture and protect his talent. Alcohol, partying and drugs derailed him from his path. He found himself ousted from the world and the people who cared for him the most. Squatting on the streets, searching for something to steal just so he could get his next fix.
However the beauty of this story, is how he persevered and bounced back. It is true that talent never perishes its within you till the very end. After the passing of his coach Manyonga had to reflect on himself, think about what he wanted. It took courage for him as he booked into a rehabilitation center in Pretoria. Ever since that day, though it may not be easy he keeps pushing through everyday, keeping in mind his goals and support system.
We can all learn something valuable from Manyonga. Challenges and hurdles are part of life. The important thing is for us to stand up, reposition ourselves, set goals and keep going.
Congratulations Luvo Manyonga may your star keep rising!
if you could be an athlete which sport would you participate in?
lets share :)
