Weekend Wrap Up- Sports edition

                                               Caster Semenya Victorious Again

Congratulations are in order for South African athlete Caster Semenya, who has conquered the 800m final in London taking the number one golden position. She has done this in the life time best of 1:55:16. This win comes at a time where her gender has been questioned ever since she made her mark back in 2009. She has brushed off these negative talks to concentrate on her track events, last week she attained a bronze medal in the 1500m race.

When asked about going for the world record she said “I have Olympic, world and Commonwealth titles now so maybe it is time to target the world record,” she said. “It’s the next thing on the list. “I know it will be difficult but I will have to attempt it soon, maybe. I have a lot of dreams to achieve.”

I say she should aim for the world record because I know she can do it. She has the support of all South Africans. Anything is possible if you believe and work towards it.

Sundowns and Chiefs stunned out of the MTN 8

Kaizer Chiefs went head to head with Supersport United at a packed Moses Mabhida Stadium. The game was action packed, with both teams having chances to score  and take a lead in the early stages.
Jeremy Brockie opened the scoreline with a cracker of a goal to make it 1-0. And that is how the match concluded

On Sunday Mamelodi Sundowns, welcomed visitors Maritzburg United to  the Lucas Moripe Stadium. For the first 45minutes of the game had a slow rhythm , Seven minutes after the break, only then did Maritzburg open the score line with a goal from Zimbawean born Evans Rusike. Mamelodi Sundowns had umpteenth chances to level the scores but it wasn't their day.

Both Supersport United and Maritzburg join Bidvest Wits and Capetown City in the semi-finals. The draw took place a few minutes after the Sundowns match. Here are the results:

  • Cape Town City v Bidvest Wits
  • SuperSport United v Maritzburg United

The first legs of the matches will take place on the weekend of August the 26-27 and the second legs September 9-10

                                                      Usain Bolt Bows out

It was a dramatic day in London at the World Champs as  Usain Bolt suffered an injury during the relay causing them to  crash out of the race. The Jamaicans  have blamed the organisers of the relay event, citing that they had to wait a while for it to start. This may not be the way he wanted to bow out, but we will always remember the legacy he has left behind.
