Monday Weekend Wrap Up- Wrapping up the weekend

This weekend has be one of the most eventful of the year, so many things were happening from the Macufe festival, Spring Fiesta, DSTVdelicious festival and all the sports events. One thing is for sure no rain formed against the people prospered. Here are some highlights from the events that happened.

The DSTV delicious festival

The Kyalami race track played host to the Dstv delicious festival, thousands of music and food lovers gathered to indulge in the festivities. First things first the process of registering and getting into the marquees was a smooth process. We waited for over an hour for the first performance to begin but fortunately we had good drinks to keep us company. Our host for the day was the beautiful Nomzamo Mbatha, she kept us hyped up with her radiant smile and personality. After the long wait the crowd roared with excitement as the legendary TKzee took to stage, performing their classic sing a longs nothing short of perfect moment of nostalgia.

The food was mouth watering, with the various choices from lamb, calamari, beef curry, and many more complemented the weather and music. Mother nature played her part by bringing down buckets of rain delaying the festivities for over 20 minutes. We didn't have a problem as shelter was provided for but for those in the general areas didn't have much shelter to keep themselves dry, which brings up the question as to why wasn't that provisioned for.  It has been raining for almost the whole week something could've been done to protect people from the rain, maybe next year the event should be moved to winter I'm sure people would rather wear a lot of jerseys than be showered with rain. And another thing that really irritated me was the announcer coming on to tell us that we can go to our cars to stay dry, this would've been great if they told us before it started raining.

However the rain did stop a bit to allow our national treasure and a legend in his right Black Coffee to hit the decks, I don't think I will be able to fully describe the magnitude of his performance. I don't recall a minute where people stopped dancing. From the minute he started to the last it was hit after hit, it was not him alone but also his drummer and pianist they oozed chemistry and brought the house down. We were given a bonus to his set, bringing onto the stage people he featured in  his classics. He was nothing short of amazing. One should add seeing Black Coffee live onto their bucket list you won't regret it.

We were then serenaded by the KingTha, whose voice is able to heal souls in some way. She took us onto a spiritual journey with her melodies and magnificent band who were also just as great. I cannot emphasize enough on the number of people who came out despite the rain and chilly weather the experience was phenomenal.

The show came to a standstill as American hip hop artist came onto stage to rap things up, he gave us  his old and new tracks and we  were privileged  to witness the main man himself hit us with a freestyle right there and there which was on another level.

Of course there will always be things that don't go according to plan, such as time management, not providing shelter in case it rains. This festival has been running for over 2 years clearly these are things that can be avoided. however there were great things about it, the performances, the food , drinks and most importantly the vibe. Definitely looking forward to next year.

Here are moments from the event:

Show stopper Sunday on Idols

This week was the crowd favourite, show stopper week which saw Tee leave the show. This theme evidently showed who could do both dance and sing at the same time. My highlight of the night was the performances from Mthokozisi who gave his own rendition to AKA's hit song 'Caiphus Song'. He gave us the feels with his voice and the whole performance. pulling out all the stops by bringing in former Our Perfect Wedding host Thembisa Mdoda who looked beautiful in a wedding dress. I must admit that Mthokozisi is a good contender for the tittle. Another contestant that did great last night was Bothlale, Who sang Tresors ' never let me go' He had both the voice and definitely the dance moves. Phindy decided to change the anthem  ' Wild thoughts' to a less sexy song, that didn't quite hit the spot for me. Like I said last week it is important to vote in order to keep your favourite till the end.

Its international! on OPW

OPW never ceases to amaze me, every week there is something more shocking than the previous. Our bride was on a plane back from France, where she had gotten divorced with the father of her child. She met her now Algerian husband, they had a conversation which led to them meeting in Zanzibar and getting married there. Now they had their wedding in South Africa, all her family members were there but the groom had his brother while his other brothers watched via Skype. There were something's that were a bit worrying, firstly it was the language barrier the groom is not particularly fluent in English how will they communicate? The brides family including the bride kept speaking in IsiZulu leaving him out of the conversation. but shifting the focus onto the wedding itself the venue was beautiful as well as the brides dress which was a beautiful pink gown with flowers on it, inspired by actress Linda Mtoba.

Could the 2018 dream still be alive?

Bafana Bafana did what we all thought they wouldn't do, they beat Burkina Faso 3-1 in front of a small crowd. The goals were scored by the raising star Percy Tau, Themba Zwane and Sbusiso Vilakazi. Many are very sceptical about the boys making it to the world cup next year, we will just have to wait and see for now congratulations to them for the effort they put in.

And that's how my weekend was, how was yours? which other event did you attend lets share:)
